  • Genre : Historical / Action / Romance
  • It is loosely based on the comic strip Iljimae, published between 1975 and 1977, written by Ko Woo-young based on Chinese folklore from the Ming dynasty about a masked Robin Hood-esque character during the Joseon era.
  • It aired on SBS from 21 May to 24 July 2008 for 20 episodes.
  • Lee is the second Korean actor to play the hero following Jang Dong-gun in 1993 and followed by Jung Il-woo for MBC’s The Return of Iljimae in 2009.

  • It was a beautiful story with beautiful characters (and great action scenes). It has heart, humour and depth.
  • There were so many moments of laughter, crying, angriness, etc. in this drama.
  • The father/son relationship was incredibly moving.
  • I’m really impressed with Lee Joon Gi, the way he transformed from goofy and loveable Yong-i to serious with awesome fighting skills Iljimae was impressive!
  • Watch it for the amazing cast and the great story!
  • I would definitely recommend this to add to your Plan to Watch list because it’s way worth it!

My Rating – 8.5/10
